Be yourself and find your people

No matter what you do, someone is going to have an issue with it. So... you might as well do what you want to- and let them have an issue with that. And because you are being true to yourself, you will naturally meet with the people that you have an affinity with.

It has been said that one-third of the people you meet like you, one-third do not like you, and one-third do not really care. It's a personality thing. It can be seductive to try to get the people that do not like you to like you. Perhaps you try to be all things to all people. Or you worry that if someone does to like you, there must be something wrong. Then there are the people that don't care. The problem with them is- well, they don't care.

When you try to get these people to like you, you walk outside of who you really are. Not only does it not work (they still have issues with you), but now you no longer clearly stand for something. This makes it hard for the people that like you to recognize you and count on you.

So why not shift your focus and energy to the people that naturally like you. Be clear with what you are about and find the people you have an affinity with.

The same is true in business. John Driscoll, marketing coach and owner of Organic Sales (link), coached me regarding my blog and classes. He said be opinionated. Write and teach what you believe in. Your followers will find you- and they will really be your followers.

This is one of those obvious, but profound things. Be yourself and find your people. Spend your time and energy with them.
